Avelino Corma Canós

Birthplace: Castellón, Spain
Research Professor, Instituto de Tecnología Química, Universitat Politècnica de València-CSIC

“By a molecular design of solid catalysts, we have developed more sustainable chemical process that contribute to mitigate CO2 emissions and residues.”

Avelino Corma Canós is a professor and founder of Instituto de Tecnología Química (CSIC-UPV) in Valencia. For almost 40 years, he has conducted research in heterogeneous catalysis in academia and in collaboration with companies. He has worked on fundamental aspects of acid-base and redox catalysis, and has developed catalysts that are being used commercially in several industrial processes. Avelino is an internationally recognised expert in solid acid and bifunctional catalysts for energy chemicals, and for making more sustainable chemical processes, especially in the synthesis and application of zeolite catalysts. He has published more than 1 400 research papers and is the inventor on more than 180 patents.
