“Data sovereignty can be seen as a capability of individuals and organisations to be self-determined when it comes to sharing their data. Data spaces facilitate data sovereignty and allow for sharing of data in ecosystems, thus paving the way for a fair data economy.”

Boris Otto is a researcher, innovator and entrepreneur in the field of data management. He views data as a strategic resource for the competitive advantage of individual enterprises and as an enabler for societies and economies to seize current opportunities such as digital transformation and carbon neutrality. Boris strives for a fair data economy in which the rights and interests of individuals regarding data sovereignty and trust are balanced with the interests of a community to reuse data for a greater common good. He serves on the board of directors of large data spaces initiatives such as Catena-X, Gaia-X and the International Data Spaces (IDS) and is co-ordinator of the EU Data Spaces Support Centre.
