Carlos Alejaldre was born in 1952 in Spain and obtained his Doctorate degree in electrophysics from the NYU Polytechnic Institute of New York. In 1992, he became the inaugural Director of the Spanish National Laboratory for Magnetic Confinement Fusion (CIEMAT). He then served as the Director General for Political Technology in 2004 and was appointed Deputy Director General at the International ITER Organization in 2006, where he remained until 2015. From 2018 to 2022, Carlos served as of Director General at the Energy, Environmental and Technological Research Center (CIEMAT) in Spain. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the EU Joint Undertaking "Fusion for Energy" and holds the title of Emeritus Scientist at CIEMAT.
