Chris Hancock has focussed his career on microwave engineering and analogue circuit design techniques to enable minimal or non-invasive open surgery, thereby improving patient outcomes. He is a chartered engineer, physicist and prolific inventor in electronic instrumentation design, having authored over 150 patent families. With each family protected in multiple territories, this represents over 1500 granted and pending patents worldwide. He received the 2019 Katharine Burr Blodgett Gold Medal and Prize for his work in designing and developing a new system to treat a range of cancers and won the Inaugural Junkosha Technology Innovator of the Year Award 2022 for his work using high frequency microwave energy to treat cancer. Chris is a Fellow of multiple institutions, including the Royal Academy of Engineering, is a senior member of the IEEE, a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor at UCL and an Honorary Professor in Cardiff's School of Medicine.
