Giuseppe Scionti

Giuseppe Scionti

Birthplace: Milan, Italy
CEO and Founder at Novameat

"Livestock farming is the leading contributor to agricultural land use and biodiversity loss. Finding alternative sources of protein that do not require intensive farming is one of the most straightforward ways to use the planet's natural resources more intelligently and efficiently."

Born in 1986 in Milan, Giuseppe Scionti is a former bioengineering professor who has spent a decade designing and fabricating bioengineered tissues and organs for biomedical applications. Giuseppe is the founder and CEO of Novameat, a Barcelona-based startup that develops advanced manufacturing technologies to create the next generation of plant-based meats and products based on alternative proteins. Recently, he patented a micro-extrusion process to manufacture texturized meat alternatives, which he has used to create the world's first 3D-printed plant-based steak. Smithsonian Magazine has named him as one of "Nine Innovators to Watch". Giuseppe has served as a judge for the MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Awards and has been invited to speak at the European Parliament, United Nations, Eton College, TEDx events and conferences.
