Laurent Lestarquit

Birthplace: Strasbourg, France
Radio-navigation Expert, CNES

“Digital technologies are pivotal in satellite systems, enabling advanced communication, precise navigation and synchronisation infrastructures and accurate Earth observation. Thanks to patented innovations, the enhanced GALILEO constellation will soon allow worldwide decimetre accuracy positioning for everyone.”

Laurent Lestarquit is a radionavigation expert and has been involved with many activities related to CNES, the French Space Agency. These include spaceborne GNSS navigation, interference mitigation techniques, navigation signal design and monitoring, geodesy and original scientific applications of the GNSS such as radio-occultation and reflectometry. He co-invented the GALILEO signal waveforms under the constraints of compliancy with the regulations, including compatibility with the existing GPS signals yet providing enhanced precision for the GALILEO signals. In the field of GNSS reflectometry, he recently demonstrated accurate and precise centimetre-level altimetry with real world reflected GNSS signal over water opening the way for future hydrology and oceanography applications. He is also a Climate Fresk facilitator.
