Born in 1956 in the Netherlands, Tony Donné studied experimental physics in Utrecht, followed by a PhD degree in nuclear physics in Amsterdam. In 1985, he switched fields and began working in fusion research. He was appointed professor in Diagnostics and Heating of Fusion Devices at Eindhoven University of Technology in 2010. A substantial part of his scientific career has been devoted to the design and use of plasma diagnostics in a large range of fusion devices. Since 2014, he is programme manager of EUROfusion, a consortium coordinating research in the field of fusion science and technology in 29 European countries.
